History
Actuarial Support was set up in 2025 to provide support to the accounting, legal, financial planning and SMSF administration industries. We the only actuarial consultancy in Australia dedicated to these industries.
We are not involved in SMSF education and don’t do work for insurers, super funds or the government. By dedicating ourselves in this way, we can focus on the challenges of the expert witness and helping our customers.
Our Expert Actuary
Our lead expert is Jamie Kernot. Jamie has over 25 years actuarial experience in life insurance, general insurance, superannuation and UK pensions. His expertise covers financial reporting, APRA reporting, insurance contract pricing, internal auditing, external auditing, capital management, reinsurance and risk management. He has worked at senior levels for companies and consultancies in Australia, UK and Ireland.
His experience has focused on the valuation of uncertain liabilities. These valuations involve uncertain future cashflows, setting assumptions, choosing a valuation methodology and implementing a controlled calculation.

Examples of these valuations are:
- Claim liabilities of life insurers.
- Claim liabilities of general insurers.
- Pension fund liabilities to members.
- Provisions for compensation payable to policyholders for over-charged fees and premiums.
- Economic values of insurers.
- Setting terms and reserves for lifetime and fixed annuities.
Jamie is an expert actuary who has been on several Actuaries Institute technical committees and co-authored an Actuaries Institute Technical Paper on setting best estimate assumptions.
